MTN Guys,

Did you know the "average" person produces 2 lbs of carbon dioxide per day? And of course we know triathletes and Minnesotatrinews.com readers are far above average....

Results and Other Stuff...

Kris-award.gifFLORIDA 70.3 - Two Minnesotans and a former one turned in fine efforts at Florida 70.3 last weekend:

- Brian Sames, 30 (now living in Chicago area) - 12th overall / 5th 30-34M AG - 4:19:27

- Kris Kolenz, 51, Duluth - 2nd 50-53W AG - 5:26:53 (Award photo L)

- Jessica Rossing, 30, Duluth - 11th 30-34W - 5:12:53

TEXAS 70.3 UPDATE - On Monday, the day after the race, the women's amateur results were amended. It turns out that Rochester's Dani Vsetecka placed 2nd overall, not 1st as originally published. The official winner is Chelsea Tiner, 28, of Dallas, whose 4:31:39 proved to be 1:15 faster than Dani's clocking.

We researched Tiner's tri history. She's a talented athlete with lots of long course experience. Her Texas effort was a 70.3 personal best. Her IM best came in a 2nd place (amateur) effort at Louisville in 2013. Her time there was 10:18:04....

Davis, who comes from Carlsbad, Calif., and is one of the top triathletes in her age group in the world, had been first out of the water and first off her bike — she was sure of it....

Age-Group Prize Money?

money-pile.gifThe trend reflects the changing role of age-groupers in triathlon.

By Susan Lacke (triathlon.competitor.com)

In recent years, prize purses for professional triathletes have been significantly reduced—the HyVee triathlon, once a 1.1 million dollar event, is no more; the Life Time Tri series cut the majority of its professional prize purse; Ironman has redistributed its prize money and eliminated pro races at several events.

But that doesn’t mean prize purses have disappeared altogether. Instead, more and more races are offering cash winnings to amateur age-group athletes in hopes of attracting a large competitive field. Entrants in 2016 Toughman events, for...

Love for St. Cloud....

pam-and-darryls-legs.gifWhen the MTN Guys think about the the St. Cloud area's multisport scene, four things come immediately to mind: Pammy Stevens, teenage girls, the Apple Duathlon and "Minnesota Nice." Working from latter to former, let's break this down:

"Minnesota Nice" - There is a sense of community in St. Cloud's multi world that is, in our opinion, unrivaled in our state. The friendships are deep and abiding  and the vibe is supremely welcoming. Hang out with Pam and Daryl (photo L), Nikki, Cindy, Judy and Mike, Adam and Raechel, Cheri, Kathy, Andy Z et al for five minutes and you'll know what we're talking about. They are truly lovely folks.

"Apple Duathlon" - Started during Woodrow Wilson's second term, The Apple, which is produced and executed by many of the people mentioned above, is simply, in our humble opinion, the best duathlon in America....
