Nick's Plans...

nick-and-girl.gifED. In his blog, 2015 Minnesota Junior of the Year, Nick Klonne, who now attends Colorado School of Mines, talks about his plans for 2016 and beyond.

So it's been quite a long while since I've been on this thing, I should be getting more regular as things start to pick up this spring.

This post is titled plans, so here are some plans:

First, the short term plans for this semester... I'm currently part of CSM's Cycling and Triathlon Clubs, and will be doing some racing with both of them this semester. The tri club only has two races, USAT Collegiate Regionals in Arizona on March 19th, and USAT Collegiate Nationals in South Carolina on April 9th (???). As of right now, it looks like my bank account is only going to let me race Regionals. Luckily, Cycling Club should make up for that lack of racing. For only $100, I'm...

Blindsided by Improvement...

On many occasions during this young century the MTN Guys have been pleasantly blindsided by an athlete's improvement.

Huh?

Here's some examples. In 2010, Rookie of the Year nominee Claire Bootsma did not make Team Minnesota. We predicted that she'd make the team in 2011, but we did not foresee that she would earn the #1 ranking, win three MMAs and be discussed for US AOY HM. Very cool! ..

W.'s Pack....

W.Harvey-and-dogs.gifBy Harmony Gallegos (southwestmetromag.com - Oct. 2015)

While many of us stroll the neighborhood with our dogs regularly to keep fit and healthy, others—like triathlete, Ironman finisher, and self-proclaimed “endurance junkie” W. Harvey Skees of Eden Prairie—take exercising with dogs to a new level.

Skees, owner of rescue dogs Dottie, a 60-pound pit bull mix named for her speckled belly, and Zeus “the Moose,” an American Bulldog who weighs in at nearly 100 pounds, regularly walks and runs with both dogs—sometimes up to seven miles at a time. “Walking with my dogs is just part of our daily routine, no different than eating dinner or brushing my teeth,” he says. “It’s just something I do.”  ...
