The field includes a reigning du National Champion--MATTHEW PAYNE--and nationals runner-up--DANI FISCHER. It also includes a man and a woman who were named US Duathlete of the Year (KEVIN O'CONNOR in 2009, JENN SCUDIERO in 2013).

After much deliberation, here are the four official nominees for 2014 Duathlete of the Year:

The Masters: A Tradition Like No Other...

jeff-gilmer.gifMinnesota Multisport Awards - Yesterday, we introduced you to the 2014 Female Master of the Year nominees. Here are the four nominees for Male MOY:

 

CHAP ACHEN, 45, Red Wing - 2014 Highlights: Overall winner of three of the five races he entered, including the Square Lake Half IM (4:15).

 

BRIAN BICH, 48, Duluth - Nine-time MMA winner, Brian set a course record at Brewhouse and medaled at Nationals (1:57:57, the fastest Olympic time by a Minnesota master in 2014).

 

KEVIN O'CONNOR, 43, Medina - Two-time MOY winner, Kevin podiumed in five regional races this year, including a win at Waseca Sprint. He also podiumed at both Du and Tri Nationals.

 

TONY SCHILLER, 56, Eden Prairie - Winner of eight MMAs, Tony, an 11-time national champion, was undefeated against age-50+ competition in regional action. He also won his AG at Olympic and Sprint Nationals.

HEIDI KELLER-MILER, 50, Chaska - Three-time MOY - 2014 Highlights: Overall podium finshes at Lake Waconia and Brewhouse. 2:17:46 at Maple Grove Olympic.

 

TRACY SERREYN, 50, Lakeville (photo L) - 1st nomination - 2014 Highlights: Three overall Top 10 finishes, Divisional CRs at Oakdale and Chisago Sprint. AG win at Ironman Wisconsin.

 

ANN SNUGGERUD, 46, Chaska - 3rd MOY nomination - 2014 Highlights: 2nd at Timberman, 5th at YWCA, 6th at Heart of the Lakes....

I’m totally a liar…I told Lee and my boys never to believe anything I say in the weeks after an Ironman.  Some of you may remember my blog post right after Kona where I said I was done with triathlons and putting my bike on eBay.


This past year I’ve been trying to find my passion and see where my next big thing is calling my name…I believed it was the Olympic Trials in the marathon.  I kept seeking and asking myself….what is that goal that drives me each day.  The thing I think about when I fall asleep at night.  The thought that come to me right after I’ve ran through the boys’ schedules for the next day, what time can we all sit down for dinner, my daily grocery shopping trip, did I get all my work submitted for my graduate courses (yes I have 4 right now), making sure I have my lessons planned and grading done for my real job.  After all of those thoughts leave my head was comes rushing back in????? ....

Jorgenson Launches Scholarship...

gwen-smile.gifTRIATHLETE.COM PRESS RELEASE - U.S. National Team member and Olympian Gwen Jorgensen has launched a scholarship fund, with support from the USA Triathlon Foundation and her wetsuit sponsor ROKA, for up-and-coming draft-legal triathletes or paratriathletes leading up to the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

 

The Gwen Jorgensen Scholarship was created to assist junior draft-legal triathletes and paratriathletes in their pursuit of excellence in the sport. In 2014, $15,000 and mentoring services with Jorgensen will be awarded to one or multiple applicants who demonstrate financial need, creative use of funds and passion for the multisport lifestyle. Members of the multisport community, including athletes, coaches and race directors, are welcome to apply, but funding must be applied to programming, training or travel costs for junior triathletes ages 19 and under....
