Dear Me...

ED. Kristina Swenson is a remarkable young woman. She's smart, caring and a terrific athlete (former Minnesota Junior of te Year, Most Improved nominee etc.)

She's also a talented writer. On Facebook, she prefaced the blog post--a letter to her 2018 self--you are about to read with these words: I haven't written for a very long while, but I finally felt it was time. 2018 was a big year for me. There were a lot of really tough times and a lot of really good times. Heading into 2019, I'm stronger, I'm healthier, and I'm happier. Thank you to everyone who has been part of my 2018...

Dear 2018 Me,

If in 2017 you could have seen who you would become in 2018, you wouldn't believe it. This year was really hard for you in so many ways. There were a lot of tears. There were bad races. There were tough decisions. But it was also SO SO good. There were great memories. There were smart choices. There was a lot of wisdom gained. I am so proud of the woman you've become. You're stronger. You're healthier. You're happier. And you have a whole lot more love to give. So looking back, what do I want you to remember about this year? ....

Today we are giving imaginary gift cards.

JAN GUENTHER (18 x MMA winner; 2 x Ironman Wisconsin winner) - We want her to have a $5000 "Sleep Number" gift card. We visited one of their stores not long ago and were very impressed. We both fell asleep while testing one of the beds! According to the sales person, one of us--the one who's name rhymes with "Poody"- did NOT snore, and the other one, ..

Last week we revealed the Christmas gifts we would have given to Team Minnesota's Gaby Bunten, Hannah Grinaker, Elaine Nelson, Matt Payne and Cheryl Zitur if we could afford to do so.

What are we not going to give to Wade Cruser and Sean Cooley, you might wonder? What about Becky Youngberg and Christina Roberts?

Here are the answers to those questions:

WADE CRUSER (2018 Triathlete of the Year, #1 - 2018 Team MInnesota) - We'd love to give Wade a new car. A Subaru Outback was out first choice, but we decided to go with an Luxus SUV because it came with a big red bow. We love that bow....

By Jesse Kropelnicki (usatriathlon.org)

At the end of a long season of training and racing, athletes need a break away from their sport. Some will gladly accept a bit of downtime. Others will fight you tooth and nail. Either way, this is a time when athletes need to focus on recharging their batteries for the upcoming season and work on any known limiters. So, to this end, while the end of the season may not, necessarily, represent off-time, any downtime should be used expeditiously, honing strength and skills for what’s to come.

We all know that triathletes can be a little compulsive, to say the least. It’s what drives them throughout the season, to wake up at those early hours, and commit so much of their lives to the sport. The offseason is an excellent time to apply this compulsion to other things. Things that further their next season’s endeavors, yet nothing like swimming, biking or running. Enter into the discussion, cross-training....
