Pammy, Ponder & Turtleman Stuff...

pamFAST TIMES IN TEMPE - Pie-loving Pam Nielsen (photo) and Andy Schiesl, who probably likes pie, too, were two of the Minnesotans who PRed their buns off at Ironman Arizona last Sunday. Pammy's awesome 10:15:53 was one of the Top 5 IM times ever by a Minnesota woman. Not only that, it was almost 22 minutes faster than her previous 140.6 best, set on the same course in 2008. Placing 6th overall among female amateurs and 2nd in her AG by a slim 1:42, Pam was rewarded for her excellence with a Kona slot. Cool beans.

Andy's brisk time was 9:33:53, which sliced 2:06 from his year-old PB, also set on this course.

Here's how the Minnesota Iron-Rock Stars fared: Tonja Beckman - 13:23:49, Mike Buenting - 10:05:25, Joe Conlin - 12:09:59, Mark Crowson - 11:41:12, Lori Dixon - 12:56:19, Cory Grasser - 12:33:56, Andy Gunsaullis - 12:17:41, Scott Hagemeier - 13:52:19, Anthony Hirschman - 9:55:40, Angel Hohenstein - 13:07:25, Brian Kelly - 11:53:09, Peter Laskewicz - 13:15:00, Brian Logue - 13:35:24, Mark Loken - 15:12:44, Jon Moynihan - 10:24:28, Pam Nielsen - 10:15:53, Chris Potenza - 12:47:10, Merilee Sander - 11:51:11, Andy Schiesl - 9:33:53, Scott Tollefson - 11:52:41.

Christel's Challenge...

christel(Photo - The back of Christel's head.)

After the MMA Presentation at Gear West Bike & Triathlon on November 10, MOY nominee Christel Kippenhan suggested that a Masters Team Minnesota be created so that she could take home a commemorative poster like those on regular TM did.

What a cool idea! So, for giggles, two members of the MMA Selection Committee got together, drank Dunn Bros. coffee, and created a women's Masters Team Minnesota, albeit without a poster because posters cost money. The process was much harder than determining the overall TM roster. Eligible athletes needed to turn in at least three outstanding performances in 2012. The official MOY nominees, of course, filled the Top Four spots.

Semi-Heroic Sidekick Guy...

lederhosenGOING OFF COURSE - Amiable Apple Valley triathlete Mike Ladendorf claims to be a "regular" guy who sells beer and loves animals and Bruce Willis movies. We have irrefutable proof, however, that there is nothing "regular" about Mr. Ladendorf, if that, in fact, is really his name.

We have uncovered some photographs that clearly prove that "Mike" is a CRIME FIGHTING SIDEKICK! Three such pics are posted in this expose'.

In case the photos don't paint a clear enough picture for you, let us explain our conclusions, starting with the "sidekick" thing.

What do we know about sidekicks? They hang out with a heroic person, and are typically shorter and less heroic than that person. The totally heroic person with a sidekick doesn't have to be a superhero, but it's better if he or she is. If that person is not a superhero, he or she nevertheless has to fight tirelessly against evil and be beloved by those who cherish truth and justice, things that used to be known as "The American Way." ...

Team Minnesota - Men...

guys(Nick Morales / TriJuice.com Photo - L- R - Dan, Patrick, Matt, Devon, Alex, Marcus, David and Kevin.)

How was men's Team Minnesota determined? Here's an inside look.

1. DAVID THOMPSON - 15 races, 8 wins. While it can be argued that Dan Hedgecock's 2012 resume, in relative terms, i.e. Dan being an elite amateur; DKT being a pro, was superior to David's, the Committee is quick to point out that the speed differential between credentialed pros (like Thompson) and credentialed amateurs (like Hedge) is substantial. David and Dan raced in the same event on six occasions in 2012. DKT came out on top in five of those races, four of which were Olympic distance, where David bettered Dan by an average of 3:21. They also faced each other at Chisago Half, with somewhat gimpy David winning in 4:00:59, and Dan placing 2nd in 4:06:19....
