16th BUFFALO TRIATHLON Preview II - Approximately 600 athletes are currently signed up for next Sunday's Buffalo Triathlon. That's awesome. In 2019 four hundred and sixteen triathletes crossed the finish line, so the increased registrations point to a successful rebound.

We're hoping that  by race day, 700-or more athletes will be in attendance. Help make that happen, okay?

Today we are making some predictions about the women's competition in both the Olympic and Sprint races, starting with the longer event.

Podium Predictions, in alpha order:

DIANE HANKEE - Diane has won at least  40 multisport races in her illustrious career, the most recent being the Apple Du two weeks ago. Her best finish at Buffalo was a 7th in 2011. She has not raced on the current course, that has been in place since 2015. She is a much better...

Diane, who had also won here in 2016, relied on her run splits to secure her 1:26 win over another  former Apple champ, ELAINE NELSON, who is probably the fastest female pharmacist in our region...

SARTELL — The Apple Duathlon starts the summer for many racing athletes.

Andy Zabel, a Sartell native, has been competing in the running/cycling event since 2010, but missed last year, along with everyone else, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Zabel isn't the only one excited to have the race back; race director Evin Haukos was looking forward to the 39th annual Apple Duathlon. ...

I had a ‘free’ entry to this event from a 2020 Coeur D’Alene deferral, so figured it would be a perfect opportunity to test my love for racing while gaining valuable course insights for my athletes and friends racing the World Championships here in September.

It was indeed satisfying to get back to structured triathlon training after ski season. Well, despite the ~10day break after testing positive for C19 early March. Needless to say, I’m extremely grateful for my health and never take this for...
