Rain, Rain Go Away....

By Darin Wieneke

Gear West Du Coverage - Is it going to rain the entire weekend? About 400 participants of the Gear West Duathlon must have been asking themselves this question as they stared out their windows on Saturday as the thunder cracked and the rain fell harder. Fortunately for these participants and Minnesota multisport fans, the answer was "No." The 19th edition of the Gear West Duathlon was able to sneak in between severe weather fronts and take place under mostly partly cloudy skies (and even see a few peaks of sunshine) on Sunday....

Words & Images From Willmar...

nathanRace Coverage - Here are some words and images that appeared in Willmar's West Central Tribune.

As rains falls, overall champion Nate Hoffman, front, of Annandale, leads the field out of the Saulsbury Beach parking lot to start the second annual Green Lake Duathlon Saturday morning. Hoffman, competing for the first time at Spicer, won the five miles of running, sandwiching a 13-mile bike, by over seven minutes in 1:07.44.

The event, which celebrated it's 7th anniversary, returned to it's original venue, which featured slightly longer routes (.25 swim-20.5 bike, 4.2 run), after a three-year period in which an alternate site ...

Weekend Racing Stuff - Three 2010 Rookie of the Year candidates rocked the Minnesota scene this weekend. Today in Orono at the 19th Gear West Duathlon, tri-sophomore Dan Hedgecock picked up his first career victory. And it was a Biggie! Dan outraced Patrick Parish (2nd), who hasn't lost to a fellow Minnesota amateur since mid-August in 2009, and Matthew Payne (3rd) and a gaggle of other elite....

Saddle Up...

msBy Bonnie Altruism

A colleague of mine asked me why I am participating in the MS150 ride to help fight against Multiple Sclerosis instead of cleaning up trash or building houses as part of a charity fundraiser. I gave him two reasons :

1) I would get stuck in wet cement or fall off the roof.

2) I believe in using what you enjoy to help others.

The MS150 is a way for athletes to get involved doing what they do best: Sitting on their butts for hours, better know as riding a bike....
