Iron Mom in Kona...

ruther-kona.gifED. Here is some great coverage that Ruth Brennan Morrey received from Channel 6 in Rochester. It contains some awesome video. Please check it out. And check back here--the post above--through the day, starting in the early afternoon, as we follow RBM's progress at today's Ironman World Championships, Triathlon's Super Bowl.

(ABC 6 NEWS) - Ruth Brennan Morrey is a Rochester native who has been a professional Ironman triathlete for three years. She is just days away from the toughest race of her life against the best athletes in the world, never once placing preparation in front of her faith or family....

A Reason to Get Another Bike...

By Lisa Lendway

Now that triathlon season is over, I have transitioned into my offseason training plan. Riding, running (barely), a little hopping and plenty of beer. So, cyclocross…

Virtual Du...

froghopcourselogo.gifThe FROG HOP is a “virtual race” in a run-bike-run format in Douglas, MN.  The “virtual” part comes in because this will be set up as a race you can complete anytime you want during the set time-frame. This is one last chance to get in a low-key race before the snow comes. But, more importantly, this is an opportunity to raise funds to help the Minellis, a local family whose daughter was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor (DIPG). Carin and Mario have been providing care for their daughter round the clock and we wanted to do something to show our support. We will be donating 100% of the proceeds to the family to help with expenses.

You can complete both the bike and the runs as an individual or find a friend to team up with you.  Can’t find a friend to do the part you don’t want to do?  Let us know and we’ll hook you up with a cyclist or runner for your team.  The race is open to all ages.

Complete your race any time between 18 September and 27 September.  TriRochester will have some volunteers out to watch your bike while you run and to provide some snacks on...

Milestones on the Horizon...

sq-lake-logo.gif16th & 15th SQUARE LAKE TRIATHLONS - The 16th annual Square Lake Short Course Triathlon will take place at picturesque Square Lake next Saturday. The 15th edition of the Square Lake Long Course (almost half IM) will happen at the same wonderful venue on Sunday.

We've looked at early reg. lists and aren't ready to predict winners in the LC event, though we do expect to see a podium finish for WADE CRUSER, who is enjoying a breakout season and is one of the many guys that are being considered for a Most Improved nomination....

Nate is a HOOT!

emy-biking.gif4th Annual BLAINE TRIATHLON PREVIEW - This race was moved from its May date because May is an "iffy" triathlon month. Few lakes are swimmable in May.

The move to September 12 seemed pretty dang smart, until you took a closer look. Sure, it shared the weekend with the long-standing Square Lake races, but the Minnesota multisport community can easily handle two events on the same weekend, especially after all those 5-8-race weekends during June, July and August.

Right?

Yeah, but let's not forget that Blaine (and Square Lake) share the weekend with Ironman Wisconsin, which draws lots of Minnesota participants. More damaging to our local races, though, is the fact that IMOO draws THOUSANDS on Minnesota triathletes who attend the race as spectators and enthusiastic supporters of their Minnesota peers. That's probably what hurts most....

Footballs & Shirtless Guys...

doobie-haigh-five.gifThe 15th annual ST. CROIX VALLEY TRIATHLONS in Hudson, Wisconsin, and the 2nd annual HOPKINS ROYALS TRI are slated for next Saturday. They are the only races of the weekend, so we certainly hope that you'll be supporting one of them, as either a participant, volunteer or spectator.

The Hopkin's event was founded by, and is directed by, Doobie Kurus (photo L), who is an awesome dude. Do you know him? He's the guy who carries a football, Adrian Peterson-style replete with Stiff Arm etc., across the finish line of the events he races in. The first time you see this you wonder if Doobie forgot to take his meds, or conversely, that he over-self-medicated. After that, though, you just think it's cool, because it is....
