19th CHISAGO LAKES SPRINT COVERAGE - "That's what I'm here for," DIANE HANKEE (photo below) told a friend at the swim start of last Sunday's Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon. She was responding, albeit with a preposition-ending reply, to the question. "Are you going to win?" ...

2025 Timberman Olympic Coverage - On paper, JOE ADRIAENS was the "man to beat" going into last Saturday's race. A legit sub-2-hour racer at the distance, he was the only entrant who, as they say, "has been there and done that." ...

2025 Timberman Sprint Coverage - This year's race drew the most talented women's field in the eleven-year history of the current sprint course. Nine women broke the 1:10 mark. Typically the number is four or five. While true that nine women cracked the 70-minute mark in 2017, those athletes had a flat lake and clear air, unlike last Saturday, where wind and chop and chunky Canadian air prevailed....

Average Jo Race Report - If anyone remembers, last year I did a report on the Average Jo Tri up in Perham, MN. I went on and on about how "happy" I was. It was my first time doing it, they gave me a safe, challenging, fun simple race, I gave some suggestions to the race director, yada-yada-yada. Well this year I was looking for signs...and I got them!
* First sign: They added a website over the winter! Nice!
* Second sign: They increased registration from 56 last year to over 100 this year. Nicer!
* Next sign: So many people I met on race morning were first time triathletes...and LOVED IT! Even nicer!
* Last sign: I got locked in my hotel room turned escape room and almost missed the race! Not so nice!
Seriously, I used what I thought was a magnetic dead bolt before turning in for bed and getting a great night sleep. In the morning, I woke up and started to head down to breakfast when I couldn't open the door. I tried sliding my room key to break the seal. Nothing! Then I tried my car key. Um...no! I even thought of going out the...

2025 Women's Trifecta Coverage -Approximately 130ish women participated in last Saturday's Trifesta at Turtle Lake. Park in Shoreview. The event featured Olympic and Sprint races for veterans and a very cool "Virgin" event for newbies.
The first woman who lost her tri-virginity, and doing so in impressive fashion, was WENDY ANN DAY, 46 (photo), who drove the 160+ miles from her home in the Backus area to do the race. Leading throughout, the avid outdoorswoman posted the only sub-1-hour time among her event's thirty-two entrants.
A pair of accomplished triathletes, like Day, led throughout their respective events to claim decisive victories. Seven-time Minnesota Master of the Year nominee ANDREA MYERS' margin in the Sprint race was a hefty 6:36, and MARTHA STELTER's MOV in the Olympic event was 9:33.
Stelter has concentrated mostly on road running over the last several years, but her tri-highlights include a 3rd at Fairmont Olympic in 2021 and a 7th at Hopkins Royal in '19.
Enthusiastic Event Publicist Lisa Hobbie shared these notes with us:
