The 2025 Minnesota triathlon season is winding down and Clyde and I are starting the process of studying athlete resumes to determine who best deserves post-season honors, i.e. Triathlete of the Year, Master of the Year, Grand Master of the Year Junior of the Year, Most Improved and Performance of the Year.
Today, we are revealing our August Triathletes of the Month.
JUNIOR OF THE MONTH
ADELINE ALTHAUS-KOTILA, 16, Minneapolis (photo) ....
Adeline raced three times in August, winning at YWCA Women's Tri) and placing 4th / 1st Junior at Maple Grove Sprint and Hopkins. Slam dunk.
HM - Corbin Deichman, 17, Mankato - 1st overall @ Maple Grove Sprint
GRAND MASTER OF THE MONTH
CHERYL ZITUR, 60, Corcoran
Cheryl didn't simply win her AG at Northwoods and Maple Grove Sprint, she took the overall women's title in both races.
A slam dunk pic for GMOM.

FEMALE TRIATHLETE, MASTER & PERFORMANCE OF THE MONTH
HEATHER LENDWAY, 41, St. Paul
Heather placed 6th overall under extreme condiitions against the fastest amateur women in America at Milwaukee Nationals. Enough said.
MALE MASTER OF THE MONTH
JOSH BLANKENHEIM, 45, Duluth
In August, Josh won two races outright, including a course record at Brewhouse Intermediate.
MALE TRIATHLETE & PERFORMANCE OF THE MONTH
SPENCER SYVERTSON, 29, Alexandria (photo)
The other pics weren't controversial, but this one was. We are picking Spencer's course record (57:01!) at Northwoods as the POM ahead of Blankenheim's Brewhouse win. Why? The NW record had stood since 2014 and was not seriously challenged until this year, whereas BH's CR has been rewritten three times in the last fiive years. As for the TOM, Spencer's fast 2nd at Maple Grove Olympic gave him the edge because MGO's field was the deepest men's field of the year in Minnesota, and the winner, Wisconsin's Tyler Tanko clearly deserves serious consideration for US Triathlete of the Year.
