After a six-month offseason, the Minnesota Multisport Honors (MMH) Committee is back! This year, instead of Simon and Garfunkel, the Committee will be comprised of Bonnie and me, Clyde. We’re SUPER excited to start discussing, arguing, and fangirling over the results of Minnesota’s top age group triathletes. So, to kick things off for 2025, here are the Committee’s June Athletes of the Month with some additional commentary for your reading pleasure.
Female Athlete of the Month: Cami Eckhoff
Cami started her 2025 campaign with a win at the Buffalo Sprint tri in early June. Her time was bonkers – a 1:04:16 – rivaling some of the best women to have ever raced in Minnesota. Just a week later she popped a PB time of 4:46:03 at the Des Moines 70.3, which was good enough for 2nd place overall....
Male Athletes of the Month: Tevin Neegaard & Nathan Kim
Tevin, 2024’s Most Improved male triathlete, placed 5th overall at Gulf Coast 69.1 (the swim was canceled – something about thunderstorms and tornados?) Although he didn’t swim, his bike split was legit, and he followed it up with a solid half marathon. Tevin then backed up his Gulf Coast performance with another 5th overall at 70.3 Rockford.
Nathan's 2nd place finsh at St. Anthony's was arguably the Performance of the Year thus far. He took 3rd overall at Des Moines 70.3 in 4:06. His 2nd / 1st amateur at Du Clear Lake was not too shabby either.
Honorable Mention: Spencer Syvertson
Spencer has raced 3 times thus far this season, with 3 amateur wins. He took the top step at the new-ish Apple triathlon, he won at the Buffalo Olympic tri, and he placed second overall behind professional Branden Scheel at Average Jo, only 44 seconds adrift.
Highlight of the Month: DKT is back!
The word “legend” gets thrown around quite a bit in endurance sport, but David Thompson is a true legend of Minnesota multisports. We don’t think that he has raced in a triathlon for a few years, but at the Buffalo Sprint, DKT managed to eek-out a victory by just 3 seconds after selling out on a sprint to the finish line. Will the now-47-year-old race more this summer? We sure hope so.
