HEART OF THE LAKES (Long Course) - Sometimes it's the battles within a race, duels actually, and not what is happening at the front that are most exciting. At HOLT last Sunday it was clear shortly after they had exited T2, that SEAN COOLEY and CHRISTINA ROBERTS would win the race and claim well-earned state titles.

Their leads were simply insurmountable.

Thus, the focus shifted. Who would place 2nd and 3rd? As it turned out, the battles for these spotswere epic. Not only that, the athletes who would would claim the following two places--4th and 5th--in both the men's and women's competitions would be pleasantly surprising.

While Sean was charging on to claim his 16th win since his relocation from North Dakota to Minnesota, and Roberts was officializing the 15th tri victory of her career, and her second W in as many weeks, MAGGIE WEISS and DIANE HANKEE, and NATHAN ANSBAUGH and JOSH BLANKENHEIM were dueling over 2nd place finishes. In both battles, it was the athlete in the come-from-behind positions--Blank and Hank--that would prevail.

For Josh, it would be his third strainght runner-up performance, all of them taking place in deep races, and it avenged his 2nd at Lake Waconia, when the run distance--four miles--was not long enough for him to catch eventual winner, Ansbaugh. HOLT's run is 5.3 miles, enough to catch-and-pass....

Minneapolis Tri Race Reports - Yesterday was the 2017 edition of the MPLS Triathlon (Life Time Fitness Triathlon) it was a beautiful sunny day and racing conditions were overall pretty great!

I had not done this race in a few years, but have a long history of doing this race. Bella raced this event last year and was excited to come back!

My 14 soon to be 15 year old daughter Bella is the best, just love her to pieces and for us to share this passion of Triathlon together and race together is so much fun!

Bella and I get to share a lot of quality time together training for Triathlon. This is time that no matter how busy I am I will adjust my schedule and make the time for. I don’t let my work or anything get in the way of my precious time with Bella training and racing Triathlon because these are just so amazing! They are why I live! ...

"After Three Years of Pondering"....

ED. HEART OF THE LAKES TRIATHLON coverage will post on Tuesday. RESULTS

Timberman Sprint Race Report - After 3 years of pondering, one cancelled race, and 3 weeks of scrambling to make up for a month of lazy (ok nonexistent) training, I finally did it! I completed my first triathlon. After many recommendations, I zeroed in on the Timberman in Cohasset.

The weather was perfect. The sun was out, the lake was calm, and only a slight breeze. The morning was a blur. I was a nervous wreck. Tried to eat breakfast, but couldn’t. Stared at my bike a lot, and aimlessly dug through my bag looking for things I may have forgotten to lay out in my transition area.

Race time! Thirty one minutes passed between the first wave going out in the swim and my own so I got comfortable chatting with a couple of nice women from my heat. It turned out that we were all nurses. After bonding over our ability to handle any bodily fluid it was our turn to go. I contemplated running out of the lake screaming but held myself back....

Exercise & Weight Loss....

"I'm going to make you work hard," a blonde and perfectly muscled fitness instructor screamed at me in a recent spinning class, "so you can have that second drink at happy hour!"

At the end of the 45-minute workout, my body was dripping with sweat. I felt like I had worked really, really hard. And according to my bike, I had burned more than 700 calories. Surely I had earned an extra margarita.

The spinning instructor was echoing a message we've been getting for years: As long as you get on that bike or treadmill, you can keep indulging — and still lose weight. It's been reinforced by fitness gurus, ...

RACE REPORT - Ironman 70.3 Madison can be summed up with Hs - heat, humidity + hills. It was also really hard...but then again, it's supposed to be hard. Ad it was the perfect race to dust off the multisport cobwebs and test my fitness seven weeks out from Ironman Canada. Work to do, but overall on tack!

We kicked off the race festivities Saturday morning with a shakeout at Olin Park, followed by a brunch at Marigold Kitchen (a must when in Madison). After a quick midday run + bike, we racked out bikes and were ready to go.
